Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of OnType — the macOS desktop app, the website at getontype.app, and related backend services (together, the “Service”). By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What OnType does

OnType lets you hold a hotkey, speak, and insert transcribed text at your cursor on macOS. Transcription runs on your device by default and can optionally be routed through a third-party cloud speech provider that you select in settings.

2. Accounts

• Some features require you to sign in through our authentication provider. You are responsible for keeping your credentials safe and for activity under your account.
• Provide accurate information when signing up, and keep your email current so we can reach you about your account or billing.
• One account is for one person. Do not share a Pro account with someone who would otherwise need their own subscription.

3. Plans and billing

Plans

We offer a 14-day Cloud Engine trial and a paid Pro tier. The specific features and prices are listed on the pricing page, which is incorporated into these terms by reference.

Payments

Paid plans are billed through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges to your payment method at the interval shown at checkout (monthly or yearly). Prices are exclusive of taxes unless stated otherwise.

Renewal and cancellation

Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. You can cancel at any time from your account page; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep Pro access until then.

Refunds

Fees paid are non-refundable except where required by law. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us at support@a1d.ai and we will look into it in good faith.

Price changes

We may change prices. If a change affects your active subscription, we will notify you before it takes effect and give you a chance to cancel before the next renewal.

4. License to use OnType

Subject to these terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the OnType desktop app on Macs that you own or control. You may not:

• copy, sell, sublicense, or redistribute the app;
• reverse engineer it except where applicable law forbids that restriction;
• remove or obscure copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices;
• use the app to build a product that competes with OnType.

5. Your content

You retain full ownership of the audio you record and the text OnType produces from it. We do not store your audio or transcripts on our servers. If you later opt into a feature that syncs content, we will describe what is stored before you enable it.

You grant us only the narrow permission needed to operate the Service — for example, relaying your audio to a cloud speech provider that you explicitly selected, so it can be transcribed and returned to your Mac.

6. Acceptable use

When using OnType, you agree not to:

• break any law, or use the Service to transcribe content you are not allowed to record;
• record people without the consent required in your jurisdiction;
• probe, scan, or otherwise attack the Service or its infrastructure;
• circumvent cloud entitlement checks or resell access to others;
• use the Service to generate abusive, harassing, or otherwise harmful content aimed at other people.

7. Third-party speech providers

If you choose a cloud speech provider in settings, your audio for that session is sent to that provider (for example, Alibaba DashScope or Volcengine) for transcription. That provider’s own terms and privacy policy govern their handling of your audio. You are responsible for choosing a backend that fits your privacy requirements.

8. Changes to the Service

OnType is under active development. Features may be added, changed, or removed. We aim to give reasonable notice for changes that materially reduce what your plan includes.

9. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, abuse the Service, or create legal or security risk for us or other users. You can stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time. On termination, your license to use the app ends; sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, dispute resolution) will continue to apply.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not warrant that transcription will be accurate, uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose. You should not rely on OnType for decisions where an inaccurate transcription could cause harm — for example, legal, medical, or safety-critical work — without independent review.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, OnType and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or US$50, whichever is greater.

12. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the Service or your violation of these terms or the rights of a third party.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will move the effective date forward and, for material changes, give reasonable notice. Continued use of the Service after the change means you accept the updated terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable to the entity operating OnType, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts having jurisdiction over that entity, unless a non-waivable consumer right in your country provides otherwise.
